Jesus Christ paid for our salvation with His death on the cross, but for us to accept this gift is as simple as using the following keys to unlock the door:

 

1.  Acknowledge you have sinned.  1 John 1:8 "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us."  Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

 

2.  Believe in Jesus.  Acts 16:31 says "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved."  John 3:16 tells us "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

 

3.  Confess and renounce your sin.  Romans 10:9 says "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."  1 John 1:9 tells us "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
